A Serendipitous Find at Bookxcess

I wrote about Bookxcess, the bookshop that sells overstocked books at low low prices, way back in March of 2010 (see here). It’s a nice place for bargain hunters but it doesn’t really carry much inventory. It’s just loads of the same titles, albeit in very good condition and cheap. Bookxcess should be visited once every three or four months or even longer and even then there’s no guarantee they’ll have what you want. That’s the thing with the place. Just because a book has been published does not mean it’ll be available at Bookxcess. From what I understand, even they don’t know what books they get to sell. It’s all up to their distributors. If they overprinted a particular title or can’t seem to push a certain book, they pass it along to Bookxcess. It’s not like Bookxcess can pick and choose what they want to sell. It’s a pot luck.
So I visited the place over the weekend after about a six month absence and much to my disappointment did not find a single title that interests me. Rarely do I leave a bookshop empty handed. I was about to leave when this caught my eye:

Helloooooooo, nurse! It’s the episode guide to the first 20 seasons of the Simpsons and wouldn’t you know it, I have this title in my Amazon wishlist for a while now waiting for the price to drop. And there it was right in front of me. How much was it?

Oh, yeah baby! Come to papa! That’s like 65 in Yankee dollars. Amazon is asking USD$60 for it at the time of writing but that’s before adding the shipping costs. My trip to Bookxcess wasn’t a waste after all. I hope they’ll have something just as good for my next visit in six months time.
I have the Simpsons episode guides, but not with the nice slip case, and bought at warehouse sale prices. It’s fun to read the interesting tid bits and spotting it in a later viewing of the episode.
At least you found something there after a long absence. I haven’t been back for quite sometime too. I wonder if they have Dilbert 2.0 there..
Nope, did not see Dilbert 2.0 at Bookxcess. Kinokuniya has it but well you know, it’s Kino…so they charge full price.
Yeah… no hurry lah, that one.
I’ve often used episodes of the Simpsons to lead faith conversations with groups of Christian teens. Amazingly rich and versatile content.
Interesting! Homer’s at the very least agnostic, Lisa’s a Buddhist, Bart is the spawn of Satan and Maggie’s a toddler. Marge is the only one who really believes.
