I Am A Book Hoarder
Thursday, 17th February, 2011 § 14 Comments
I have too many books.
Believe it or not it took some effort to admit that to myself, what more typing the words onto the screen. Remember a while back I wrote I was going to clear up my clutter on my coffee table? Yeah, it has actually gotten worse!

The stack of books in the background are the ones I'm thinking of giving away but have a hard time doing so
Space on the table has become a premium that I’m putting books on any empty space I can find. Including but not limited to plastic stool chairs…
…and the computer work table.
So why don’t I just keep them in the bookshelves? I even have one shelf reserved for books that have yet to be read. Well, because of this:
To say my “books-to-read” shelf is overflowing would be an understatement. It is not so much overflowing than it is sinking under all that weight. It’s like Scotty from Star Trek going, “I cannae do it, Cap’n! She cannae take the presshah! The engines are gonna blow!” Maybe I should get rid of all that National Geographic magazines (the yellow pile on the right of the photo). It’s not like I’ll be reading them again.
I also have a small shelf in my bedroom for books that I plan to read soon (yeah, right!) or books that I like to refer to often. I can transfer some of them to my library but that would involve walking.
The books in these photos don’t even make up half of my entire collection and more are coming in from time to time, jostling for space. Overpopulation and the gradual loss of open spaces is a grave concern at The Malaysian Reader HQ. We are thinking of taking over the neighbouring houses because we need the living space. Just like Hitler did when he invaded Russia….oh wait, that didn’t work out so well for him, did it?

oii open up one private library ! … then no more storage problems …
Kena sewa rumah satu khas untuk buku je.
agreed with ubaida. I wonder how its smell of all this books. Nyum..nyum..
You can open a rental book store, Mr K. That would solve your storage problem AND generate income for you to hoard, er, buy more books.
What think you?
Sedekah. Sila standby envelop pos ekspres bebanyak
Oh, you may be interested in this, being a Star Wars fan:

Snuze, of those lightsabers in the pic, I have the first four and the last one (Maul) as FX lightsabers (it lights up and makes all the lighstaber noises like in the movie. Cool). And I have the Yoda and Qui Gon Jinn but not as FX sabers but as movie replicas.
Now I think I need to write a post about my SW collection….thanks for the idea
You kept the boxes too? I thought I’m the only one having that problem, now I’m not alone, yay!
By the way if one day you acquire the strength to give them away, I’m very happy to give you my address, hehehehe.
Khairul would have a big problem with lending out his books, people. He’s crazy that way hahahaha (but I think most of us book hoarders have this same problem!)
Bad experience when I was a kid. Loaned books to friends, books came back damaged. In one case, book never came back. His response, “Sorry-lah. Hilang.” Huh? That’s it? Pinjam buku orang, hilangkan, cakap sorry je?
Putus kawan lepas tu. Langsung tak pandang muka dia.
Man, that sucks! At least my friends who lost my books offered to replace them or give money to replace them (not that it helps, it was the thought that counts).
No wonder putus kawan!
my eyes keep focusing on one thing…..BATMAN!!!!!! LOL
i keep them in box, every 3 to 4 months, send a 20kg of book to home, where my mom would say, “nak letak mana ni?” . i will lend them to anyone who is interested in reading, then, whatever happen (damage etc), have to tahan hati, (i think that is my part in encouraging people to read)
and when i realise its gone (missing or not yet return), i love to believe that it is in better place, like somebody is reading them, so the knowledge is being shared (delusional what!!).
i have a hard time to give away mags. books to give away? aaaaaa, super big NO!
I can’t loan books to anyone, even relatives. Wanna read it? Read it here. My library isn’t a lending library.
I do give away books occasionally. Especially books that I’m either upgrading to a better edition or books that I don’t think I’ll read again.
